Appeal for volunteers to help town’s elderly
A Winchcombe charity that provides vital day care support for the elderly is issuing its own plea for help from volunteers.
Winchcombe Day Care Centre is looking for men and women who could spare a few hours each week to help with activities, kitchen duties and driving local members to and from its Langley Road premises.
Centre Manager Vicky Weaver says the Centre needs someone to help in the kitchen on Monday lunch-times and other volunteers on Wednesday mornings to help with activities for members and as well as in the kitchen.
“We would also love to hear from anyone willing to become one of our volunteer drivers on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday, and either morning and/or afternoon. The role is to collect and/or return members to their homes.
“The Centre relies heavily on volunteers and we would welcome some extra help. It doesn’t need to be all day, just a few hours in the morning or afternoon would make all the difference to us.”
The Centre is open from 10am to 3.30pm on Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays and caters for up to 24 elderly people each day. Members enjoy a hot lunch and a range of activities from cards, scrabble, mind games, skittles, craft, memory games, singing and exercise, to trips and meals out, birthday celebrations and seasonal parties.
“Winchcombe’s elderly population love coming here. It’s a friendly, safe, sociable and welcoming environment with lots of activities designed to help keep members active both mentally and physically. Our support often enables them to live independently rather than going into full-time care,” said Vicky.
Anyone who could spare a few hours a week should contact Vicky on 01242 603207, email email@example.com, or message her via the Centre Facebook page.
