James Agg is an extremely versatile bassist that plays in a number of different styles and genres, as well as mainstream jazz. He has played bass with a Lancashire based group called "Tipitina", at Ronnie Scott's, and has been recording with Ben Travers for his solo album, featuring special guest Ben Holder (who was appointed Jazz Musician of the Year 2011).James plays in a lot of different bands, and is also frequently booked for individual gigs as one of the top local "go to" bassists. Some (but not all) of the groups he plays in are the AJL Quintet (run by Andy Loveridge), the Steve Franks Trio, Dom Franks's (no relation) group "Strayhorn", Debbie Atrhurs's group "Sweet Rhythm", and "The Charleston Five". (Debbie Arthurs is also the leader of the "Charleston Chasers).
He also teaches, and plays (and teaches) cello and piano.
James will be performing in Jazz in the Abbey Gardens on Monday 27th May.
