07 Jun Volunteers preparing for this year’s Winchcombe Country Show
Plans are well under way for this year’s Winchcombe Country Show – which promises to be another action-packed, fun day out for all the family on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28th.
The event at Winchcombe School field in Greet Road, will include arena displays, entertainment, dog demonstrations, an array of local foods to eat and lots of stalls offering a range of gifts and goodies.
The Show being with the annual procession through Winchcombe which begins at 11.30am from the Abbey Fields Community Centre in Back Lane. There will be vintage tractors, fancy dress contestants and the Happenstance Border Morris dancers. The procession will arrive at the show site to mark its opening at 12noon.
Winchcombe Country Show is a traditional rural show with the Flower Show at its heart. There will be many flower show classes featuring beautiful floral displays, arts, crafts, photography, wine cookery and preserves. There are over 50 trophies to be won.
This year the headline act is the On the Edge Stunt Trials Display Team. Using a purpose built truck and obstacles, the stunts and tricks you will see rely on absolute precision, unbelievable balance and a total lack of fear! The lead rider is Jack Challoner, four times British & Italian Champion. The finale promises to be breath-taking.
Alongside the main event, the show will be packed with activities for everyone. These will include the Happenstance Morris Dancers, go-karting, a traditional Punch and Judy show, street entertainment, face painting and much, much more. The show will feature a number of arts and crafts stalls including many stalls selling gifts and local food. There will also be stalls giving you information about the charities and local organisations that operate from Winchcombe.
There will be dog friendly games including terrier racing, dog scurry and have a go agility. Please bring your dogs along so that they can enjoy the day as well. To keep your energy levels up there will be various refreshment stands including a tea tent serving delicious homemade cakes and a licensed bar.
Tickets costs £4 per adult and £2 per child. Family tickets (two adults and up to three children) will be £10.
On Sunday 27 August prior to the show there will be the Run Winchcombe Event at Sudeley Castle featuring a 5k fun run, a 10K hill climb to the Neolithic long barrow Belas Knapp for the more adventurous and a 1k for 10s and under.
